  • I read hundreds of journal articles a year, and my purpose is to make all that knowledge ACCESSIBLE and USEFUL for you. That’s why I’m here.

This course will transform your offerings AND your attitude

  • If disorganization is keeping you from feeling confident
  • If a lack of confidence is keeping you from advertising
  • If your service packages aren’t really serving potential clients
  • If your calendar isn’t full of client support meetings
  • If you’re uncertain how to approach diverse families
  • If virtual visits are unsatisfying…
  • If you want to get “better” but a business course isn’t the answer
  • It’s also for you if everything is pretty great AND you want to use your gifts in a more impactful way
  • If you are ready for the next step in your professional growth

  • Want to know more before choosing? If You’ve Tried Before, and…
  • Other online classes fell flat and their tools weren’t comprehensive enough to get at the root of the issue
  • Videos didn’t keep your interest
  • Books and blogs had an approach that was too general to really help
  • It was too challenging to figure out what and how to change

Dr. Amy Gilliland’s courses are specific, effective, and focused on your needs as a perinatal support worker – nurse, doula, physician, midwife, family visitor, lactation specialist, health navigators – our courses are designed to focus on you. My goal is to make you the most effective version of yourself that you can be!! And I’m good at it too!

What about the Trauma course? Can you really recognize a previously traumatized person if you don’t know them and they’re in labor?

Yes, you can! In fact they are giving off very strong nonverbal signals. Once you know what to look for, it becomes much easier to adapt your behavior. You’ll learn how to recognize a laboring person presenting with previous trauma and how to optimize their experience. The course also covers how traumatic experience changes the functional adaptive processes of the brain, especially when that brain is faced with new or novel experiences. Human labor and birth are also prime times for the healing of trauma because of the flooding of oxytocin, or the reinforcement of trauma resulting from disrespectful treatment.

How about that last online class? Social brains? Virtual Visits?

And it’s free sometimes? Explain this!

I wanted to offer a short course that would be really intriguing and useful to YOU! I wanted to make a class that you wouldn’t stop talking or thinking about. You know the kind, where you can’t wait to hear the next installment! For the last five years I’ve been studying interpersonal neurobiology, which looks at what are our brains are doing when humans interact with one another. I got into this to figure out the doula-laboring person relationship, but I ended up learning so much more. PLUS it made getting along with my fellow humans SO MUCH EASIER.

The Virtual Visits and the Social Brain course is a five part short course that you can take in an hour. The cost is $40.00 for the 1 nursing continuing education hour Thinkific class, which includes video captioning, downloadable pdf transcripts, handouts, diagrams, quizzes to verify attendance, and a certificate. I want so many people to have this useful information, that I also offer it as a FREE sampler class without any CE’s.

To make the FREE COURSE more fun, we’ve created it as a Five Day Virtual Visit Challenge! By now, most of us have had professional meetings and appointments via video call. The last day’s video is full of concrete strategies to use that build on the information in the first four installments about the Social Brain. With your list and ours, you’ll be so much more effective in all your relationships. People will just make so much more sense to you. In just FIVE DAYS!
